The Bead Monkey

The Bead Monkey offers classes, parties, and bead camp for youth, in which participants can learn how to make their own beaded jewelry. All classes are for students 16 and up unless otherwise noted. Bead Camp students are ages 8 and up, and they spend four mornings learning a variety of techniques and finishing several projects each day. All supplies are included. Camps meet from 9am-noon select weeks in the summer.

Breakthrough Saint Paul is a tuition-free, six-year, year-round, academic enrichment program that has two missions: to help motivated, under-resourced middle and high school students from SPPS succeed in rigorous coursework in school and get to college; and to attract diverse, talented high school and college students to the teaching profession. We accomplish both of these missions at the same time with a program model called “Students Teaching Students.” With this model, academically motivated, at-risk, middle school students from the Saint Paul Public Schools take classes that are designed and taught by talented and diverse high school and college students. A team of professional mentor teachers and a dedicated staff guide the young teachers and oversee the entire process.

The afterschool tutoring program supplies free, one-on-one, volunteer-based tutoring for 2nd and 3rd grade students who attend Roosevelt and Riverview Schools. The program begins in October and ends in early May. There is also a week-long summer program which engages elementary school aged participants in afternoons of reading and creative activities.

Keystone Community Services’ Hmong Youth program serves Hmong youth ages 6-18 and their families living in the North end of St. Paul. Youth groups meet 2 evenings a week and offer traditional Hmong dance instruction, homework help, and support. Once a week, there is a group for both youth and families providing additional education and support.
